Phi Theta Kappa Presents: UF Transfer Application Workshop
5 Honors Points for PTK Membership
Are you planning to apply to UF after graduating from SF? Get help completing your application, thanks to Santa Fe’s chapter of the International Honors Society, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). This coming Thursday, February 16, SF PTK hosts Christina Maddern, UF Transfer Admissions Officer, for a UF Transfer Application Workshop! Ask any questions you have about your application in real time and submit the same day, just in time for the Summer transfer application deadline!

Study Abroad Opportunities in Warsaw, Poland- 10th Security and Society Summer School- Info Session
30 Honors Points for Study Abroad
Now in its 10th year, this summer program provides participants with unique perspectives on security issues in and from the perspective of Central Europe - and a resume-building experience. The 4-week in-person course is based in Warsaw, with travel to Berlin and Krakow. It is followed by a two-week online research internship with the Terrorism Research Centre. Papers developed during this internship will be published as part of Volume 7 of Security and Society in the Information Age.
The course offers a broad overview of the modern security challenges faced by the countries of Central Europe and more broadly by NATO and the European Union. This program will focus on the regional and global implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, adding to the discussion of the evolving conflicts in the region and globally. Topics include hybrid threats, cybersecurity, terrorism, information warfare, the role of AI and other innovations, international law relating to war, and peacebuilding.

2024 Future of Florida Summit: A Convergence of Minds on AI Policy
15 Honors points for participating in event
The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida proudly hosts the 2024 Future of Florida Summit, the state's largest student-led public policy conference. This year's focus is on the evolving realm of Artificial Intelligence, with discussions centered around its impact on education, healthcare, agriculture, and law.
Scheduled from March 1-3, 2024, at the University of Florida campus, this summit offers a pre-event online policy preparation session on February 25. It's an extraordinary opportunity for 70 student leaders from across Florida to engage in meaningful dialogue with state leaders and professionals, gaining insights that extend far beyond the classroom.
Applications for this pivotal event are due by January 13, 2024, with a confirmation of attendance required by January 26. The summit welcomes students from all majors and levels, including graduate students, from any Florida college or university. Attendees from outside Alachua County will be provided hotel accommodations, and meals are covered for all participants.

Gator Mountain Challenge
5 Honors Points for participating in fundraising and event
Gator Mountain (aka Ben Hill Griffin Stadium) is a challenging climb -- 90 rows up four times total. That's like climbing a 700-foot mountain! This unique event pits teams against one another in a bracket-style relay competition to see which team can conquer "Gator Mountain" with the fastest time.
Registration to join a five-member “climbing” team is free! Four people will run the bracketed heats, allowing one team member to sit out, as determined by the team. All climbing teams are required to raise $250. Don't worry, you may have an unlimited number of people on your fundraising team! There are prizes for the top three teams and free T-shirts for registered climbing participants.
Date: Sunday, February 25 from 9:00 am to noon

10 Honors Points for Open House Involvement
Open House meetings are the perfect opportunity for future Santa Fe Students and those interested in Santa Fe to learn more about what Santa Fe has to offer. However, since we are short on Staff, those who are familiar with Santa Fe College could volunteer by helping answer general questions about Santa Fe, for out-of-town families, questions about the Gainesville area, helping students and families find sessions, and providing directions. We’ll provide water and any materials you might need, as well as handle setup and teardown, but we do need staff! Please consider signing up for a shift, or multiple shifts, if possible! Write Yourself into the Art Museum!
15 Honors Points per piece of published work
Words on Canvas is an annual art writing competition at the Harn Museum of Art for University of Florida and Santa Fe College students. We invite you to engage museumgoers with your poetry or prose inspired by art at the museum. This year, students can choose from 27 artworks covering each of the Harn’s collecting areas on view throughout the museum. We also have a special theme focused on walking (embracing all forms of inclusive personal mobility and imaginative approaches), so we are calling the 2024 competition Walks on Canvas!
Writers of winning entries will be awarded fun prizes and will have the opportunity to read their entry in front of their artwork at the Harn's Museum. Their essay/poem will be printed in a brochure to be given to them and shared with audiences; and will be featured on the innovative Walking Station which dispenses stories at the push of a button.
Students may submit until midnight, February 25, 2024.

The UF Center for Humanities in the Public Sphere presents an interactive presentation by Dr. Leonard N. Moore that focuses on racial dynamics of college football in the South after some changes, including the NIL, transfer portal, conference realignment, 2023 U.S. Supreme Court outlawing affirmative action in college admissions, and anti-DEI legislation.
Information about Leonard N. Moore: George Littlefield Professor of American History & former vice president at the University of Texas at Austin. Authored four books on black politics: Carl B. Stokes and the Rise of Black Political Power, Black Rage in New Orleans, The Defeat of Black Power, and Teaching Black History to White People.

About the Organization: Global Dental Brigades (GDB) is an organization dedicated to empowering underserved communities and reducing health disparities by encouraging sustainable public health solutions. Aided by the national Global Brigades organization, GDB is hosting a brigade to Panama this summer. Volunteers have the opportunity to volunteers shadowing licensed dentists, delivering post-op care instructions, and conducting children’s education workshops. Our brigade offers a valuable worldly minded and hands on dental experience for all future dentists!
Registration for the Medi-Gators Virtual Shadowing Program is now Open

(Virtual Shadowing earns 5 CHEs for each virtual experience or 30 CHEs for the Medi-Gator Certificate.)
This semester, participants have the opportunity to shadow 40 healthcare professionals within a wide-array of health careers and specialties (including veterinary medicine) via zoom, meaning you can earn up to 40 virtual shadowing hours and a certificate, as well as potential opportunities for mentorship, research, in-person shadowing, and more. Registration closes on Thursday, February 15th at 11:59 PM, but Virtual shadowing begins on Monday, February 19th.

UF First Responder Gator Registering for Spring 2024
50 Honors Points for completion of course
Are you on a pre-health track & interested in emergency medicine? Take First Responder Gator! Our 40-hour extracurricular course is a fantastic way to learn new skills and become prepared to help others in an emergency! Our class will be offered this spring from January 23rd to April 9th. Registration is open until January 30th.
First Responder Gator has both a lab and lecture component. Lectures are once a week on Wednesdays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm and are taught by Gainesville Fire Rescue firefighter and paramedic Chief David Sutton. Labs are once a week from 6:00pm - 8:00pm with the option to choose Tuesdays or Thursdays where you will learn hands-on skills like CPR, bleeding control, and more! Classes are held on the UF campus, but you do not have to be a UF student to register!
