This Week in Honors:
Open Registration
It’s been a busy few weeks, and a ton of you got the jump on signing up for Spring classes. Starting this week, however, the game has officially changed—everyone can modify their Spring 2024 schedule, meaning you that you can add, remove, and modify courses any time you want. What does this mean for you, as an Honors student?
If you would like to add any non-honors courses, you can do so by going to eSantaFe—>My Classes—>Register Classes
If you would like to add an Honors course to your schedule, you can do so by completing the Honors Registration Request Form.
When selecting your schedule, you will want to:
Check your eSanta Fe account for registration stops: Registration stops, including the requirement to complete a registration agreement will prevent us from registering you for any courses and may result in you not getting the schedule you request.
Maintain your honors status: To remain in the Honors Program, you will need to register for at least 3 credits of Honors coursework for the upcoming semester, or earn 30 Honors points. Click here for a listing of honors courses to be offered this coming semester. In addition to those listed, we have English Composition 1 (ENC1101, section 0H1) and English Composition 2 (ENC1102, section 0H1)
Maintain progress toward your degree and/or transfer: You can review your progress toward earning your degree, as well as any courses required or suggested for transfer by reviewing your Degree Audit in eSantaFe. If you have any questions about degree or transfer requirements, please feel free to contact the Honors Advising Office or visit the Academic Advisement Center.
Balance your time: Santa Fe expects that you will invest 2 - 3 hours per week for each credit hour that you register. This means that, for example, a full-time, 12 credit, schedule equates to a roughly 24- to 36-hour per week commitment.
After your posted registration date, you will be able to make changes to your schedule through eSantaFe.
Having trouble meeting with Honors advising? There are options!
Right now, many students are excited to plan out the spring semester and make sure they’re on track. There’s just one problem—Honors advising availability fills up fast and it can be tough to get an appointment in a timely manner. Luckily, we’ve got options if you need to get a question answered quickly.
Make an appointment. You can easily set up an appointment to meet using our Advising Calendar. Often, there are a few open spots during the week that haven’t been taken or there’s been a cancelation, so it’s always worth checking here first.
Meet with an advisor in the Academic Advisement Center (R-201). We aim to provide excellent academic advising collegewide at Santa Fe and often, questions about degree requirements, transfer prerequisites, and registration can be answered by an advisor in another office. If you’re looking to set up or change your schedule for spring, consider meeting with an advisor in the AAC and then submitting a registration request with us to get in your classes early. The Academic Advisement Center schedules appointments and has drop-in hours.
Drop in during the hours below. In the event that there is a cancellation or a meeting wraps up quickly, I might be able to fit you in between existing appointments. You can come in person to the Honors Office (A-215) on Mondays and Fridays or hang out in the Zoom waiting room (https://sfcollege.zoom.us/my/honors) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the hours below and I’ll see you as soon as I’m able to. You might have to wait a while, but I’ll do my best to work you in.
New Honors Course! Movies as Narrative with Professor Nik Bajorek
Embark on a journey through the lens of film with "Movies as Narrative" (ENG2102 section 0H1), with Honors Professor Nik Bajorek. This course offers a deep dive into the art of transforming literary works into their cinematic counterparts, examining the intricate dance between verbal and visual storytelling. As an Honors student, you'll engage in critical analysis of various movie genres, investigate the creative choices of filmmakers, and delve into the original texts that inspired the silver screen adaptations. Moreover, the course invites you to explore the realm of film criticism, enhancing your understanding of how written critiques can enrich the film-watching experience and the movies themselves. Fulfill your "writing across the curriculum" general education requirement with this thought-provoking class, and earn Honors Points in the process. Join us for a semester where your academic rigor meets the magic of movies.
To sign up for Movies as Narrative as an Honors course, just submit an Honors Registration Request form and enter ENG2102, section 0H1.

Documentary Screening and Discussion: The Whale Lagoon
UF’S International Ethnography Lab invites you to an early screening of the documentary The Whale Lagoon. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Francisco Campos-Lopez and climate justice activist Xiye Bastida.
The film is a project directed by Francisco Campus-Lopez about Laguna San Ignacio, the last pristine gray whale breeding ground and nursery on the Pacific Coast of Baja California. The laguna was the focus of an unprecedented successful international campaign to stop a proposed Mitsubishi-Mexican Government salt works there a generation ago and continues to be a site of innovative community-based sustainability efforts. Recently, the project expanded, bringing on Xiye Bastida to connect the whale lagoon project that started a generation ago to the challenge of climate change facing this generation.

2023 Wish Upon a Star Gift Drive for Local Foster Youth
Each year, Partnership for Strong Families (PFSF) works with community partners and donors to provide holiday “wishes” to over 1,200 local children in foster care. Wish Upon a Star offers an opportunity to add some joy to their holiday.
Student Life partners with PFSF each year to help members of the SF community sponsor 50 stars. Click here to see available stars. Each star includes information about a child in local foster care and three of their wishes for the holidays. Sponsors agree to purchase at least two of the three items (around $50 total) but are welcome to donate more. If you cannot find a specific gift listed on the star, you are welcome to substitute another age-appropriate gift. Donations should be unwrapped with a copy of the child’s star securely attached to each gift. Please drop off donations by Monday, November 27 at 4 p.m in S-245 on SF’s Northwest campus.
To sign up, e-mail sarah.blanc@sfcollege.edu with the following information:
