Honors Update: Psychology Club Meeting Today at 3:15
If you're a psychology major, interested in research, or just like brain stuff, check this out
Many honors students plan to major in Psychology at a University like UF—either because you plan to enter a career in psychology or because it makes for a great pre-health major. In either case, SF’s Psychology Club is an excellent opportunity to gather with like-minded students, connect with researchers and practitioners in our community and at UF, and participate in hands-on opportunities you won’t find anywhere else. See below for information on the club and today’s meeting.
The SF Psychology Club’s first meeting of the semester is Today, Tuesday, Sept 26th at 3:15pm in P-164.
Why Psychology Club Rocks
In the spring semester, we took field trips to the zoo (to learning about operant conditioning), the UF Health Sleep Center, and the UF Pain Research & Intervention Center of Excellence. In addition, we completed a research project on college student mental health that won first place at the SF Research in Undergraduate Education Symposium and had several social events (i.e., watching the movie Inside Out, games with the Anthropology Club, guest speakers). Below is a statement of the club’s purpose. If you want more info about the club or to be added to the club’s CANVAS page, please contact the club's president, Kahlil, at Kahlil.rivera.ortiz@sfcollege.edu.
Club Purpose
The purposes of this organization are to provide an opportunity for students of Santa Fe College to learn and further explore their interests in the field and study of psychology. In doing so, the club strives to make students aware of the various psychology courses offered at Santa Fe College as well as issues pertaining to the field and study of psychology. This may include the exploration of various subfields/specialty areas in psychology as well as discussions of the research being conducted by psychologists and the applied implications of their work. Students may have the opportunity to participate in additional learning experiences, such as presentations by guest speakers, visits/fieldtrips to local psychology-related centers and/or research laboratories, volunteer experiences, and/or participate in the research process. Those students planning to major in psychology may also benefit from learning about potential career paths in the field, as well as common requirements for earning their degree in psychology, and experiences that may assist in preparing them for more advanced studies (i.e., graduate school). Students may also have the opportunity to participate in outreach projects aimed at increasing others’ awareness of psychology related topics/issues and/or raising support for organizations focused on the promotion of psychological health. In achieving these purposes, the club strives to establish a community of students interested in the field and study of psychology and to provide for them an opportunity to extend their knowledge further in this field, share their common interests as a group, and interact and work collectively to serve others in the community.
