Selecting your class schedule and getting registered for classes can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Santa Fe College has numerous resources and personnel dedicated to helping you pick the courses that are right for you and get enrolled in the sections you need. As an Honors Student at Santa Fe, there are some important things you’ll want to keep in mind as you prepare for registration each term.

  1. You can register early. As a member of the Honors program, you can register for classes during Advanced Registration, weeks before many other students can. For your specific registration date, please refer to eSantaFe.

  2. You can register yourself for most classes. Once your registration date arrives, you should be able to register yourself for most classes.

  3. You can request registration for Honors Classes. Enrollment for Honors courses is regulated by the Honors Advising office. To request that an Honors course be added to your schedule, just fill out an Honors Registration Request Form.

Selecting Classes

Scheduling requirements are different for each student. There are some general guidelines, however, that are helpful as you build your schedule for the coming term.

  • Maintain your honors status: To remain in the Honors Program, you will need to register for at least 3 credits of Honors coursework for the upcoming semester, or earn 30 Honors points. Click here for a listing of honors courses to be offered this coming semester.

  • Maintain progress toward your degree and/or transfer: You can review your progress toward earning your degree, as well as any courses required or suggested for transfer by reviewing your Degree Audit in eSantaFe. If you have any questions about degree or transfer requirements, please feel free to contact the Honors Advising Office or visit the Academic Advisement Center

  • Balance your time: Santa Fe expects that you will invest 2 - 3 hours per week for each credit hour that you register. This means that, for example, a full-time, 12 credit, schedule equates to a roughly 24- to 36-hour per week commitment.

Registering for Classes

One your registration date comes, signing up for classes is relatively straightforward. By taking the steps below, you can make sure you’re able to build a schedule that supports your academic and career goals while accommodating your availability and time commitments.

  1. Check your eSanta Fe account for registration stops: Registration stops, including the requirement to complete a registration agreement will prevent us from registering you for any courses and may result in you not getting the schedule you request.

  2. Consult with an Advisor: Communicating with an advisor is a great step to take to make sure you’re on the right track, but the advisor you speak with will depend on your academic goals.

    1. AA/Transfer - Academic Advisement Center. If you are planning to complete an AA degree at Santa Fe prior to transferring to another college or university, the advisors in Santa Fe’s Academic Advisement Center are an excellent resource. These advising professionals can help you develop an academic plan, select courses that satisfy AA requirements, and choose classes that move you toward transfer requirements.

    2. AA/Transfer - University Transfer Advising/Admissions. Often, advisors at the institution you plan to join are the ones best informed on program requirements and transfer best practices. Each term—and especially in your final term prior to transfer—it’s a great idea to connect with a transfer advisor or transfer admissions at your chosen colleges or universities.

    3. AS/AAS/Bachelors - Program Advisement. Santa Fe is home to many dedicated academic programs that have their own specific requirements. If you are planning to complete one of these terminal degrees, please consult with your program advisor to select the most appropriate courses for the coming term.

  3. Request Honors courses: Once you have selected your courses for the coming term, including your honors courses, you can request Honors courses be added to your schedule using the Honors Registration Request Form. Note that you don’t need to include your whole schedule, just your Honors classes.

  4. Sign up for your remaining classes: To register for your remaining courses, log into eSantaFe, then navigate to “My Classes” and then “Register for Classes.” Once you’re there, you can browse available classes and select the sections that work for you.
