Start Earning Points and Become a Master Researcher!
The Research Explorer Workshop Series Begins Tomorrow!
5 points per session, 20 points for completing workshop series
The Research Explorer Workshop Series is intended to provide a progressive introduction to library research. Participants are welcome to attend any number of workshops, but those who attend all three will receive a certificate and badge (and additional Honors points). All workshops are on Zoom at https://sfcollege.zoom.us/my/reference.
Week 1: Charting Your Course (7/23, 1:30 – 3pm)
This workshop covers the basics of research, beginning with identifying manageable research topics and developing the best search strategies to locate books in the library catalog and articles through Academic Search Complete. Along the way, we will discuss how to organize and cite the sources you find.
Week 2: Find Your Shortcut (7/30, 1:30 – 3pm)
Now that you have a solid foundation of basic search strategies, the second workshop in the Research Explorer series shows you how to find more subject-specific databases and resources. You will also learn how to improve your Google search results and more easily evaluate them to determine if they are credible and appropriate to use for research.
Week 3: Off the Beaten Path (8/6, 1:30 – 3pm)
In the final workshop of the Research Explorer series, you will learn about the resources available to you beyond Santa Fe College. You will learn how to best use Google Scholar and how to request books and articles not owned by the Tyree Library. Additionally, a UF librarian will provide information on the resources and services you can use right now through the UF Libraries and collections.
