15 Honors Points for participating in program
The SF Center for Applied Ethics & Humanities is now in its fifth year of partnership with ethics and humanities institutes at Harvard, Stanford, St. Philip’s College, and California State Bakersfield for the Intercollegiate Civil Disagreement Partnership (ICDP), an undergraduate student fellowship and training program aimed at developing skills to engage in and lead conversations about difficult, important topics across political differences at their respective universities and beyond.
We will select six to eight 2024-25 ICDP Student Fellows from SF to participate in the program that begins with a week-long summer retreat and training at DePauw University in Indiana (from August 12 to 16). All expenses for the summer retreat will be paid, and students will receive a $1000 stipend for their participation in the two-semester hybrid program.
For more information and to apply, students can go to this ICDP website. The link is also included in the attached flyer. Applications are due by May 20, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern). Students must be SF undergraduates to apply (SF high school dual-enrolled students are eligible).

Get Research Experience with an NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates Opportunity
NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel. Undergraduate students supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. An REU Site may be at either a US or foreign location.
By using the web page, Search for an REU Site, you may examine opportunities in the subject areas supported by various NSF units. Also, you may search by keywords to identify sites in particular research areas or with certain features, such as a particular location.
Students must contact the individual sites for information and application materials. NSF does not have application materials and does not select student participants. A contact person and contact information is listed for each site.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer at Balance 180 this Summer
1 Honors Point per Hour of Service
Balance 180 Summer Camp provides a great learning experience for student volunteers. All of our volunteers work 1-1 or 2-1 with the participating campers in various activities, including gymnastics time, crafts, and games. The athletes have a variety of disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and Cerebral Palsy, among others. The camp will be offered from July 8th to July 26th and will be held Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Volunteers can select the days and hours that they can join us, so that it works for their schedule.
During our Adaptive Gymnastics Classes, we teach gymnasts with physical or intellectual disabilities foundational skills on the vault, bars, beam, and floor in a step-by-step, individualized process. Our volunteers work one-on-one with the athletes and help each athlete work at their own pace. Volunteers focus on helping the athletes improve motor skills and encourage them to follow instructions and make new friends. No gymnastics experience is required to be a great volunteer. The Adaptive Gymnastics classes will be held on most Saturdays from 1:00-2:00 pm.

Become a Volunteer Crisis Line Counselor
1 Honors Point per Hour of Service
The Alachua County Crisis Center is recruiting volunteers to answer our local crisis hotline, as well as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988). The Alachua County Crisis Center provides free and confidential crisis response services to Gainesville and the surrounding community of Alachua County, almost all of which are provided by highly trained volunteers. Volunteering with the Crisis Center is a great way to support our community and those in need; while also learning valuable communication skills you can use for the rest of your life.
Training starts on Saturday, June 1st, and is over 60 hours over the course of eight weeks. Volunteers learn crisis intervention and suicide prevention skills, which prepares them to answer phones on the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (988) and our local crisis hotline. The training is free and is conducted entirely online. For more information about training, click here. If you have questions about training, contact Training Coordinator Kevin Sosa at (352) 264-6781 or ksosa@alachuacounty.us.
