Welcome to our guide to getting involved in new activities while earning Honors Points, and getting the most out of your time in SF. Each week, look for an updated guide to student organizations, current events, scholarship opportunities, internships, and academic involvements you need to know about. All of these are available to SF students and are worth Honors Points. Look for a new edition of the Compass at the end of every week!
If you are looking for clubs to join or start your own during this Fall semester, remember that Club Rush will be on September 9 and 10 in the Oak Grove from 10am -2pm. For more information contact doug.bagby@sfcollege.edu. Also, don’t forget that SF is closed Monday, September 2, for Labor Day!

About: The Emerging Leaders Program is the perfect opportunity to meet new people while engaging with the community by getting connected through activities on campus. Additionally, this program benefits your personal growth while enhancing your leadership potential! At the end of the program, students will be recognized with a certificate (attendance is mandatory, one absence will be excused)

Are you looking for volunteer hours? Struggling to find something that fits your schedule and availability? Thanks to the SF Office for Civic Engagement and Service, there are many opportunities to get engaged virtually and provide service from home or an SF computer!
Balance 180 Hands-On Learning Opportunity
1 Honors Point per Volunteer Hour
About: During Adaptive Gymnastics Classes, you will teach gymnasts with physical or intellectual disabilities foundational skills on the vault, bars, beam, and floor in a step-by-step, individualized process. The volunteer work will be one-on-one with the athletes to help each athlete work at their own pace.
Focus of Adaptive Gymnastic Classes: Help athletes improve motor skills and encourage them to follow instructions and make new friends.
When: Classes will be held most Saturdays, listed specifically on the below flyer, from 12:35-2:30 PM. The first training session is on August 29th and an additional on September 12th.

Mental Health First Aid Training for Students
5 Honors Points for completing training
About: This training helps participants understand how to help others who might be experiencing a mental health-related crisis or problem on campus. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions. This training is offered in person. There is limited seating and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees will need to complete some coursework before the training date and must be present for the entire course for certification. Light breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided!
Date & Time: Friday, September 13th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
Location: S-029, Northwest Campus
Registration Deadline: For the September 13th training the deadline is Monday, September 9th.

Audubon Florida’s Conservation Leadership Initiative
30 Honors Points for Program Completion
Audubon Florida has led conservation efforts for over a century, protecting land, water, and wildlife throughout the state. As we continue to advance these efforts, we are excited to invite the next generation of conservationists to join us through our annual Conservation Leadership Initiative (CLI). CLI is a year-long program for students at Florida colleges and universities interested in environmental conservation careers. Running from November 2024 to May 2025, CLI offers mentorship, leadership skill-building, professional development, field trips, and project planning. We invite all undergraduate students to apply for this opportunity.
Applications can be found at fl.audubon.org/CLI. They close at midnight on Monday, September 23rd. Interested students are invited to join us for an optional virtual informational session via Zoom.

In the singularity we experience amid the AI revolution, a grasp on the legal concepts of technological advancements propels either engineers or lawyers to a qualitatively different understanding of this fast-changing era. While we teach you all about inventors’ sheet of patent paper, we explore beyond that to look at everything on law and technology!

About: This leadership opportunity is generally an 8-10 month intensive fellowship — valuable to future nurses, physicians, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians, as well as other future healthcare providers and anyone interested in gaining skills in public health while supporting healthcare systems around the world. This pre-professional internship entails 3-5 hours per week and is a truly enriching experience that will provide you with great skills for professional life such as learning about healthcare in a global context, gaining effective leadership and communication skills, acquiring international and public health work experience, and attending several orientations and workshops focused on personal development and cultural sensitivity.
Applications are open to any students, regardless of experience, class level, or major. This fellowship takes place as a hybrid role - partly on campus and partly remote.

First Responder Gator
50 Honors Points for Completion of Course
Are you on a pre-health track & interested in emergency medicine? Take First Responder Gator! Our 40-hour extracurricular course is a fantastic way to learn new skills and become prepared to help others in an emergency!
About: Lectures are once a week on Wednesdays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm and are taught by Gainesville Fire Rescue firefighter and paramedic Chief David Sutton. Labs are once a week from 6:00pm - 8:00pm with the option to choose Tuesdays or Thursdays where you will learn hands-on skills like CPR, bleeding control, and more!
Class Locations: Classes are held on the UF campus, but you do not have to be a UF student to register!
Registering for a lab automatically registers you for the Wednesday lectures.

Medi-Gators Ambassadors are essential members of our team who assist with program outreach, social media marketing, event planning, fundraising, and more. The Medi-Gators Ambassador Program includes leadership training, team-building skills, and graduate healthcare program preparation workshops.
