Honors News and Updates
We’ve Moved!
A couple of weeks ago, I shared the news that the Honors Program was moving to S Building! Today, I’m excited to be closing out our first week in our new home, working with partners to bring even more exciting, challenging, and rewarding experiences to members of the Honors community.
What does this mean for Honors Program Students?
This move means that we’ll be able to collaborate with partners in student affairs, student life, and academic programs even more effectively to build opportunities in and outside of the classroom as you work toward your academic goals. This move won’t affect Honors classes but will give us new spaces, partners, and resources when it comes to events, like those built by the Honors Navigators. And, the Navigators and I will be excited to see you in our new space for one-on-one conversations, group meetings, study groups, workshops, and community events.
How can Honors Program members meet with the Honors Coordinator?
Although the location is changing, you’ll still be able to come and talk with me like usual. I’ll be up on the 3rd floor of S Building, in S-314. Feel free to drop-in and say “Hi” during my office hours, below, or email honors@sfcollege.edu to set up a time to talk in-person or virtually.
Honors Coordinator (Professor Keith) Meeting Hours
Location: S-314
Days: Monday through Thursday
Time: 9:00am - 11:00am
How can I meet with a Navigator?
Have a question about classes, points, progress, graduation, or getting involved? Our Honors Navigators are available to meet in SF’s Student Engagement Center on the 2nd floor of S Building. Just look for Gianna and Julio in their stylish Honors Program polos.
Honors Navigator (Gianna and Julio) Meeting Hours
Location: Student Engagement Center, S-Building 2nd Floor
Tuesday: 2pm - 4pm
Wednesday: 11:30am - 1:30pm
What about events and workshops?
Our new location in S Building is perfect for workshops, events, and other opportunities to develop your skills, ensure your success in the Honors Program, and connect with the Honors community. Thanks to the support of our partners in the Student Engagement Center, Student Life, and Student Affairs, we’ll be able to bring you even more exciting opportunities across SF’s locations. Any time we have something going on, we’ll be sure to let you know via Canvas, the Compass, and our social media. If you aren’t already, be sure to follow us on Instagram (@sfhonors).
Summer B Meeting Hours: Honors Coordinator and Navigators
As we move from Summer A to Summer B, both the Honors Coordinator and our Navigators will have a new schedule for meetings. We’re still excited to connect with you—just at a slightly different time.
Honors Coordinator: Professor Keith
Monday - Thursday
9:00am - 11:00am
Honors Navigators: Gianna, Julio, and Kiani
Tuesday: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Friday: 11:30am - 1:30pm
New for Fall 2025: Honors Ethics and Technology
Course Number: PHI2930, Section 0H1
Department: Humanities
Degree Requirement: Elective
Schedule: Monday and Wednesday, 1:00pm - 2:15pm
This Fall, join us Professor Marin Smillov for our first ever course focused on Ethics of Technology. We’re constantly faced with the need to consider the ethical implications of unchecked innovation, but it feels like this question is more pertinent than ever. Excited to join the discussion around technology, AI, and ethics? just file a registration request today!
Why take PHI 2930 Ethics of Technology?
It is impossible to overstate the role of technology in our lives. In the course of evolution, humans have survived by relying on technology. This course will examine the ethical issues arising from the technological development throughout human history. The course will challenge the students by revealing many unexpected problems arising from technological changes. Students will discover the origins of many inventions and will learn interesting details about them. In addition, the course will provide the much-needed ethical reflection on the responsible applications of technology. Most inventors tend to have tunnel vision and focus exclusively on the positive consequences of their discoveries, ignoring any negative side effects. The course will offer some theoretical background while empowering students to evaluate ethical problems and to form enlightened views. We will examine the recent advances in electronic technology, resulting in the proliferation of social media and AI. The course will help students gain a deeper understanding of electronic technology and abandon the role of passive consumers. This course will provide a fact-based assessment of the complex relationship between humanity and technology.
Secure Your Spot: Fall 2025 Honors Course Registration
While Fall 2025 may seem far off, we encourage you to register for your Honors courses as early as possible. Classes tend to fill quickly, so submitting your Course Registration Form soon will help ensure you get into your preferred classes. Before registering, log into your eSantaFe account to check for any holds that might delay your registration. Taking care of this now will help you avoid complications later.
As a reminder, Honors students must earn at least 30 Honors Points each semester. The easiest way to do this is by enrolling in Honors courses — you’ll earn 10 points per credit hour upon successful completion.
Honors courses are available in subjects including Communications, Social and Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, and Electives, and are designed for smaller class sizes, deeper learning, and more interactive experiences. These courses may feature special topics or enriched versions of existing classes, and students are expected to take initiative and commit time outside of class to succeed.
