Honors News and Updates
Welcome New Students!
Today, I’m excited to welcome 159 new Honors Program members who will be joining us for the Fall semester. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Honors Admissions Committee—Professors Sarika Joshi, John Pfeilsticker, and Alex Siwiecki—we are lucky to have tremendous students from across the planet joining us this coming semester.
New to Honors? Don’t Forget to Sign Up for Orientation
If you’re one of the new Honors Program members we’re excited to welcome, please remember that you need to attend one of our mandatory orientation sessions. You can use our Honors New Student Orientation Bookings Page to register for one of our upcoming sessions. I’ll look forward to answering your questions, discussing how to be successful in the program, and introducing you to our Honors Navigators!
Reminder: We’ve Moved!
Whether you’re just joining us or you’re coming back after years at SF I want you to know where to find the Honors team. We’ve moved to S Building and you can find the Honors Coordinator on the 3rd floor in 314 and the Honors Navigators on the second floor in the Student Engagement Center.
Honors Coordinator (Professor Keith) Meeting Hours
Location: S-314
Days: Monday through Thursday
Time: 9:00am - 11:00am
Honors Navigator (Kiani, Gianna, and Julio) Meeting Hours
Location: Student Engagement Center, S-Building 2nd Floor
Tuesday: 1pm - 4pm
Thursday: 1pm - 4pm
Secure Your Spot: Fall 2025 Honors Course Registration
While Fall 2025 may seem far off, we encourage you to register for your Honors courses as early as possible. Classes tend to fill quickly, so submitting your Course Registration Form soon will help ensure you get into your preferred classes. Before registering, log into your eSantaFe account to check for any holds that might delay your registration. Taking care of this now will help you avoid complications later.
As a reminder, Honors students must earn at least 30 Honors Points each semester. The easiest way to do this is by enrolling in Honors courses — you’ll earn 10 points per credit hour upon successful completion.
Honors courses are available in subjects including Communications, Social and Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, and Electives, and are designed for smaller class sizes, deeper learning, and more interactive experiences. These courses may feature special topics or enriched versions of existing classes, and students are expected to take initiative and commit time outside of class to succeed.
Review the Fall 2025 Honors Courses Catalog and prepare to make your selections!
Academic Opportunities
Become a Master Researcher with the Honors-Focused Research Explorer Workshop Series
5 points per session, 20 points for completing workshop series
The Research Explorer Workshop Series is intended to provide a progressive introduction to library research. Participants are welcome to attend any number of workshops, but those who attend all three will receive a certificate and badge (and additional Honors points). All workshops are on Zoom: https://sfcollege.zoom.us/my/reference
Week 1: Charting Your Course (7/23, 1:30 – 3pm)
This workshop covers the basics of research, beginning with identifying manageable research topics and developing the best search strategies to locate books in the library catalog and articles through Academic Search Complete. Along the way, we will discuss how to organize and cite the sources you find.
Week 2: Find Your Shortcut (7/30, 1:30 – 3pm)
Now that you have a solid foundation of basic search strategies, the second workshop in the Research Explorer series shows you how to find more subject-specific databases and resources. You will also learn how to improve your Google search results and more easily evaluate them to determine if they are credible and appropriate to use for research.
Week 3: Off the Beaten Path (8/6, 1:30 – 3pm)
In the final workshop of the Research Explorer series, you will learn about the resources available to you beyond Santa Fe College. You will learn how to best use Google Scholar and how to request books and articles not owned by the Tyree Library. Additionally, a UF librarian will provide information on the resources and services you can use right now through the UF Libraries and collections.
Career Services at Blount Center: Résumé Help, Interview Skills, Job Search Guidance
Get help with your résumé, interview skills, and job search strategies. Career Services offers one-on-one support every Wednesday at the Blount Center.
