This Thursday - Experience Denmark: Global Education x Honors
Earn up to 20 Honors Points and connect across borders!
Thursday, October 24 | 10:00 AM–1:30 PM | Blount Center, Downtown Gainesville
Join the Santa Fe College Honors Program and Global Education for an immersive cultural exchange with visiting students from Denmark. This half-day event brings together SF Honors students and Danish university delegates for a morning of conversation, collaboration, and reflection—all while earning up to 20 Honors points.
You’ll take part in three connected experiences that explore what it means to communicate, learn, and collaborate across cultures. Come ready to engage, listen, share, and learn in a welcoming, curiosity-driven environment. You can attend as many or as few of the events as you like. Each is worth 5 points and attending all 3 gives a bonus—up to 20 points total!
Activity 1 (10am - 10:45am): Mix & Mingle — Discovering Culture Through Conversation
5 Honors Points for participation
Start the morning with a casual, interactive exchange between SF and Danish students. You’ll be grouped into small teams and invited to share snapshots of your everyday life and traditions—things like favorite foods, holidays, pastimes, or what a typical Friday night looks like in your culture. The goal isn’t formality—it’s genuine connection.
This is an easy, low-stakes way to meet international peers, practice intercultural communication, and find common ground through conversation. You’ll be surprised by how quickly similarities emerge—and what small differences reveal about how culture shapes the way we live and interact.
Activity 2 (10:45am - 11:30am): Learning Commons Scavenger Hunt — Exploring Ideas Together
5 Honors Points for participation
Next, you’ll work alongside your Danish teammates in the Blount Hall Learning Commons, where you’ll explore the building’s art, design, and academic resources in a collaborative scavenger hunt. Together, you’ll choose an art piece or feature to learn more about, do a quick dive into its story using the Commons’ research tools, and create a brief presentation to share what you discovered.
The activity blends curiosity, creativity, and teamwork—giving you a chance to see how collaboration unfolds when people bring different cultural lenses and approaches to problem-solving. It’s a fun, energetic way to connect ideas, art, and research across perspectives.
Activity 3 (11:30am - 1:30pm): Reflection & Pizza Lunch — Sharing What You’ve Learned
5 Honors Points for participation
After the morning’s activities, everyone will gather for a shared pizza lunch and guided reflection. This is a space to pause and talk through what stood out—whether it was a moment of misunderstanding, a surprising point of connection, or a shift in how you think about culture and communication.
You’ll leave with a clearer sense of your own cultural identity and a deeper appreciation for the nuances of cross-cultural understanding. Plus, you’ll connect with Honors peers and Danish guests in a relaxed, conversational setting.
This event is a collaboration between Global Education and the SF Honors Program, and it’s designed to help students experience the world from new perspectives—without leaving Gainesville.
